What is pelvic floor therapy?

The pelvic floor is a group of muscles at the base of your core that support your bladder and bowels. Weakness and/or tightness in these muscles can lead to pain, urinary/fecal incontinence or constipation. Pelvic floor physical therapy address these symptoms with neuromuscular re-education, therapeutic exercise and manual treatment.

Pregnancy + your pelvic floor

During the initial phase of recovery from pregnancy it is normal to experience some pain and discomfort. However pain and leaking during daily activities after the first 6 weeks post partum is NOT normal and should be addressed by a pelvic floor physical therapist.

Pelvic floor therapy for pain during intercourse

Pain with intercourse is never normal. Pain can often be experienced post partum, pre/post menopausal women and male or females with chronic low back/hip pain. Addressing restrictions in the pelvic floor musculature in conjunction with supplemental treatment can resolve these symptoms.
